How BatteryPass relates to battery passport standards

DIN DKE SPEC 99100, the IDTA Digital Battery Passport submodels, Catena-X CX-0160 and the BatteryPass data model, and what BatteryPass maps today and what it does not.

The legal basis of the battery passport is Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Article 77 and Annex XIII. Several standards and data models describe how the passport's data can be structured and exchanged. This page says plainly how the data in BatteryPass relates to each of them, what is mapped today and what is not. None of it promises that your passports meet the requirements: that depends on your data and remains your responsibility.

DIN DKE SPEC 99100

DIN DKE SPEC 99100 (2025-02) lists the data attributes of the battery passport and groups them in chapters. The BatteryPass field registry is built along the same chapters: every section returned by getRegistrySchema carries din_spec with the chapter it covers, and fields carry their legal references.

Registry sectionDIN DKE SPEC 99100
identification (identification and product data)6.1
labeling (labelling and conformity)6.2
carbon_footprint6.3
due_diligence6.4
materials, hazardous (materials and composition, hazardous substances)6.5
circularity6.6
performance, condition (performance and durability, dynamic condition data)6.7

The registry decides which fields a battery category needs and from when; where the registry and the specification differ in detail, the registry follows the regulation.

IDTA Digital Battery Passport (Asset Administration Shell)

The Industrial Digital Twin Association published the submodel templates IDTA 02035-1 to 02035-7 "Digital Battery Passport" in version 1.0 in February 2026, developed together with Catena-X and aligned with DIN DKE SPEC 99100. They describe the passport as submodels of an Asset Administration Shell (AAS); part 1 is the digital nameplate, part 2 the handover documentation, the further parts follow the chapters of the specification.

BatteryPass does not export AAS submodels today. Because both follow DIN DKE SPEC 99100, a middleware can map the values it reads with listBatteryValues and listModelVersionValues to the submodel elements chapter by chapter. An AAS export from BatteryPass is a possible follow-up, not a current feature.

Catena-X CX-0160

The Catena-X standard CX-0160 "Battery Passport" (version 1.0.0) exists only in the preview of the CX-Neptune release and is not released (CX-0160 preview). In Catena-X a passport is a digital twin registered in a Digital Twin Registry (CX-0002), exchanged through an Eclipse Dataspace Connector (EDC) between partners identified by business partner numbers (BPNL for the legal entity, BPNS for a site).

BatteryPass is not a Catena-X connector: it registers no digital twins, runs no EDC and holds no business partner numbers. A manufacturer that takes part in Catena-X can feed its own connector from the BatteryPass API. The identifiers line up like this:

Catena-XBatteryPass
manufacturerPartId (the catalogue part)the battery model: its model identifier (sku) or GTIN
partInstanceId (the serialised part)the unit's serial_number
the passport's own identifierthe unit's passport_id (urn:dpp:…) and its GS1 Digital Link

BatteryPass-Ready data model

The BatteryPass consortium's data model 1.2.0 is no longer maintained; its successor is the BatteryPass-Ready Data Model, whose JSON schemas BatteryPass ships in version 2.0.1. For every published passport version, exportPassportJson returns the version as BatteryPass v2.0 JSON, built when the version was published. The schema check is advisory: the version reports batterypass_v2_valid and the number of issues, and a failing check does not block publication. Details are in Export passports.

GBA Battery Passport

The Global Battery Alliance runs a voluntary battery passport programme with its own rules and indicators. It is not the EU battery passport, and BatteryPass does not produce GBA passports.
